CoreTeam helps AI-native and deep-tech startups build high-performing engineering teams — fast, embedded, and founder-aligned. We’re not a dev shop. We’re not recruiters. We embed senior engineers from day one to execute, lead, and help build teams that stay inside the company. We work on real infrastructure, real systems, and real AI-native products — not just prototypes. You won’t just build models; you’ll help teams bring them to life in production environments.
We’re hiring an Applied AI Research Engineer to join our embedded teams working with early-stage AI and GenAI startups. You’ll take cutting-edge research and turn it into usable, scalable, and product-integrated systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of ML research, software engineering, and product execution — someone who can move fast, but with clarity and technical depth.
Fine-tune and evaluate LLMs and other foundation models for real-world use cases (e.g., RAG, agent loops, embeddings)
Own the research-to-production lifecycle: from Jupyter/Colab notebooks to live inference infrastructure
Design and run experiments to benchmark models, prompts, and pipeline variants
Collaborate with product and infra teams to ship features built on AI foundations
Build custom tools, evaluators, data pipelines, and synthetic feedback loops where off-the-shelf solutions don’t cut it
Stay current with the latest in LLM research and help translate insights into working product
2–5+ years experience in ML, NLP, or deep learning (ideally applied, not just academic)
Strong familiarity with modern AI tools: PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, OpenAI APIs, vector DBs (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate)
Comfortable with backend infra: Docker, APIs, experiment tracking, logging, model serving
Ability to read and adapt current research papers into usable implementations
Excellent communication: async, clear, context-driven
Bonus: experience with RAG, agentic workflows, fine-tuning LLMs on proprietary data
At CoreTeam, you’ll work on real AI systems that ship — not theoretical prototypes. You’ll be embedded directly with high-velocity startup teams, contributing to meaningful product decisions and solving real-world engineering challenges from day one. We foster an engineer-first culture where clarity, autonomy, and technical ownership are the norm. You’ll collaborate with sharp peers, lead with impact, and help shape systems and teams that last — all while staying flexible in a remote-first, async-friendly environment.
Salary range is £75k–£95k + equity, but the final offer will depend on your skills and experience.
